Religious Education

RE actively promotes the values of truth, justice and respect for all and care of the environment. It places emphasis on:

  • Pupils valuing themselves and others

  • The role of family and the community in religious belief and activity

  • The celebration of diversity in society through understanding similarities and differences

RE should reflect the fact that the religious traditions in Great Britain are mainly Christian, whilst taking account of the teaching and practices of other principle religions represented in Great Britain.

At Cottons Farm we will study Christianity as our main religion as well as looking at Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and Sikhism. These religions are to be taught in response to the balance of religions represented among pupils’ and their families in our school.

In addition, RE at Cottons Farm makes a significant contribution to a number of other areas of school life, including:

  • The school’s multi-cultural curriculum

  • The spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils

  • Citizenship

  • PSHE

  • School ethos
