As the SATs exams are just around the corner, we are putting special effort into preparation!
Morning booster groups will continue with more children than ever - thanks to Ms Donnelly who is taking an extra group.
We have also started intervention group work in the afternoon to support our children in: maths, grammar/writing, handwriting and reading.
Mile with a smile!
Just to remind you all, we are taking part in a challenge. Every Monday morning 6KM starts their week with the big - one mile long run. Our aim is to improve the physical, emotional and social health and wellbeing while also improve the academic achievement of our children. A study shows that physical activity can be immense - improving not only the children’s fitness, but also their concentration levels, mood, behaviour and general wellbeing.
Please make sure your child remembers to bring sport footwear.
In English we have started to look at one of the darkest and greatest Grimm Brother’s story of Hansel and Gretel. Through drama, we have explored characters, emotions and actions. We have also worked on our descriptive sentences and improving our writing.
The children in Year 6 have done a practice SPaG test with SATs questions. Well done to all for their hard work! It was a great opportunity to gain a better understanding of what is expected during SATs exams but also to highlight where improvement is needed. We all know we need to improve our spelling!
This week Year 5 have been working hard on decimal numbers. We have been rounding decimals, turning fractions into decimals and vice versa.
The children in Year 6 have been looking at equivalents between fractions, decimals and percentages. They have also been calculating percentage increase and decrease, which has given them a great understanding of how percentages are used in real life.
On Friday we have started converting units of measure which will carry on next week.
We have been exploring the phases of the Moon. The children have been researching and describing the movement of the Moon relative to the Earth during the course of the month.
The children have been learning about rainforest animals. They have been exploring rainforest species to create informative posters about a chosen animal from the rainforest. It was a very creative and enjoyable lesson for all!
