Reading is at the heart of everything we do here at Cottons Farm. This is a commitment shared by The Harmony Trust who want each pupil to READ ACHIEVE SUCCEED.
We want all our children to be those who read for Pleasure & Purpose. Our team have engaged with the work of Teresa Cremin on Reading for Pleasure.
Our Reading Curriculum is designed based on the research of Doug Lemov et al in his seminal text "Reading Reconsidered".
In addition, Alex Quigley's book "Closing the Vocabulary Gap" informs our teaching of vocabulary.
Our Reading toolkits ensure that children understand the skills that they are learning and how to be successful. The toolkits also progress throughout the school so children know how to improve in their reading.
Part of our Reading Curriculum is story time. We believe this time is the day is very precious and we love to see teachers sharing a story with their pupils at the end of the day.
